Edward Norman has been appointed music director of St. George’s Anglican Cathedral, Kingston (King and Johnson Sts.) and will give an inaugural recital at the Cathedral on Friday evening, September 22, at 8 pm. He is playing a substantial programme of works by Bach, Böhm, Handel, E. Lemare, G. Tailleferre, P. Eben, L. Vierne, K. Leighton and M. Dupré. Edward Norman was born in the United Kingdom and studied with Osborne Peasgood and Harold Darke at the Royal College of Music. In 1974 he moved to Vancouver to study with Hugh MacLean. He has held previous appointments at St. John’s Anglican Church, Shaughnessy, BC, and at First Presbyterian Church, Pittsburgh, PA. Ed is an active recitalist, who has performed in Canada and the U.S., the UK, Europe and Asia. Recent appearances include a recital in the inaugural series on the new organ at Christ Church Cathedral, Vancouver, and a recital at Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge University, UK. While resident in BC he was on the faculty of UBC’s music school, accompanist at Trinity Western University, a lecturer at Regent College, and organist for the Vancouver Symphony.
