CMQ REPORT - RE CANADIAN SUMMER SCHOOL
The Eastern Ontario Branch held its first ever 3+ day Summer School for Church Musicians
in Brockville, Ontario from August 11th to 14th, 2002. Registrants came from across Canada and the United States.
Following each morning's short "chapel service," a total of 45 people participated in separate workshops geared towards organists, choir-directors, keyboard players and guitarists. Everyone seemed impressed with the daily presentations made by Jeffrey Reusing, Frances Harkness and Jeffrey Hanlon who constituted our trio of course clinicians. Each afternoon there were outings to the Brockville Museum, Fulford Mansion and a "Thousand Islands" boat cruise. After supper and choir practice, there was a concert each evening to round off the day's activities and we were fortunate enough to secure the services of an excellent caterer who served sumptuous lunches and suppers which were always followed by irresistibly sinful desserts!
The ecumenical event was held at the Highway Pentecostal Church in Brockville which not only has a lovely chapel but also many attractive rooms for the workshops and a most efficient air conditioning system which was much appreciated on those scorching hot days which seem to be the norm during a Southern Ontario Summer. Everyone made new friends and resolved to stay in touch.
