Seaway Ecumenical Fellowship Group

Mission Statement

To provide a forum for like-minded individuals for fellowship, and to express Christian faith in the community.

On Saturday January 21st Valerie Kines presented an inspired update on local activities with the International nonprofit organization, Habitat for Humanity.

The sixth project for the Thousand Islands division will be a three row housing unit in Prescott . Valerie emphasized that the project is for working low income ownership and it is certainly not a hand-out. In fact, the first project in Brockville has been very successful. When the foundations were being built, a young boy asked for time out from the Prince of Wales primary school so that he could watch the diggers at work for his new home. He is now in college and has donated more than a 1,000 volunteer hours to the community. This is a wonderful success story, indeed.

The Town of Prescott has donated the land as well as the access road and the South Grenville District High School has provided most of the construction to date.

The family selection process is well underway with a local Prescott committee in place, but applications are still being accepted.

500 hours of sweat equity is required from the successful applicants who will receive an interest free mortgage.

Bob Gollinger advised us that the Habitat for Humanity ReStore outlet located at 3037 County Road 29 (www.1000islandsrestore.com) would be very happy to hear from anyone wanting to volunteer for this project.

On Saturday February 18th Mayor Todd gave an extensive update on the state of affairs in the Town and relations with its municipal

neighbours east and west of the Town boundaries.

He reviewed the status of the current strategic plan and invited all to a public meeting at 6:30 pm at the Health Unit on Tuesday February 21st. Economic growth

was emphasized, as well good governance, which helped to keep the 2012 tax increase to a modest two percentage points.

The next meeting will be Saturday March 17th with Irish music and Dublin Road .

More volunteers (especially in the kitchen) are desperately needed if this group is to survive.
