Addition of a 27' pool required an addition to the existing deck. The original was a P.T. frame with TREX composite decking and trimmed out in Red Cedar. Here's a pic from a upstairs window that sort of gets it all in... As I approached the end of construction you could appreciate the size of the whole deck... it's huge!
Here's a shot of the addition... ... and a shot from the new deck looking toward the old... Gate installed: This gate is made from red cedar 2x6 and the bars are copper type 'L' 1/2" plumbing pipe, cleaned with Muriatic acid to be bright & shiny. I tried to turn it the rustic green colour but the result was not really uniform in appearance so I decided to let it age naturally. All joints are mortise & 1/2" tenon with the top having haunched tenons showing through the ends of the stiles. Used Titebond II glue and no nails or screws. Inside stiles are 3" outside stiles are 5.5" top rail is 4" and the bottom rail is 5.5". Pointed 'T' Hinges are from Lee Valley. As usual the hardware from Lee Valley is very substantial. The right hand gate will be bolted in place and the main entry point will be on the left. The bolt can be flipped up and the right hand gate opened as normal if required. The bolt is not installed in this pic but is a large galvanized bolt from Home Hardware that I stripped off the plating using muriatic acid, then painted gloss black to match the gate hardware.
Some various close up shots (by request) Newly installed TREX against the new cedar deck 10 year old TREX & Cedar against the new (note: old deck is stained with Sikkens Cetol SRD. It was weathered grey before staining.) This shows that TREX will take stain. The blotches were spilled when staining the upper railing 2 years prior. Mad a pretty good match! |
